Well, we certainly dodged a bullet by getting our 15th event in the books last Friday at Ron Jaworski’s, Blue Heron Pines GC. 3” to 5” of snow fell a few hours later and the course is still covered. 36 players layered up, hooked up their cart covers and some very good numbers hit the scoreboard. Chad Cerino, professional from the Centerton GC lead the Open Division gross with a 77 and the Centerton guys kept it going as Matt Scheeper took Open low net with 77. With temps staying in the 40’s and a stiff shore breeze/wind the playing conditions were probably the toughest of the season, with wind chills in the high 30’s. Prize recap and scoresheets are attached.

Wedgwood’s Joe Dilio and Jim Babst playing out of Five Ponds GC in Warminster, PA tied at 76 for Senior Division low gross. In a playoff of handicaps, Philly fireman, Babst beat Dilio 4 to 9. Joe paired his 9 handicap to his 76 and the resulting 67 was good for the win in Senior net. Second place in Senior net went to Jeff Wachman from Laurel Creek CC as he shot a nice 89 to go with his 20 handicap and a prize winning total of 69.

The best score of the day turned up in the Super Senior Division as Dave Jacobson combined nines of 37 & 36 for a one over par 73 and first place in gross. Jim Soukup played his best round of the current AWGL season, shooting 81 gross, minus his handicap of 19 for a SS net winning score of 62. The Super Seniors kept the ball rolling with some excellent shot making in the Closest to Pin contests on holes #2 and #11. Judge John Kaspar, playing out of the Centerton GC knocked it to 9’ 11” on #2 and Bill Holmes from Cape May National stopped his shot on #11 at 5’ and both these “sharpshooters” cashed in with CTP wins. Following golf the beautiful grill room at BHP hosted and warmed up the AWGL linksters with delicious food and beverages….hats off to the “Jaws” staff for providing us with a great day and tournament.

Assuming the snow disappears over the next few days, we’re all set up for Golden Pheasant on 2/23. Only three events remaining before the championship at Avalon on March 15th. Four regular season rounds are required to be eligible to play in the championship. Please text/email me with your groups if you’re planning to play the Pheasant. Looking forward to seeing everyone next Friday and please……..Travel Safe!
